Just because you do heart-centred work does not mean you cannot make money from it. When I first started this kind of work, I was told many stories – it’s too hard to make money from that, you can’t make money and even that it was wrong for me to make money from this type of work. The only truth in all of these, are that they are stories. And whatever stories you believe in are exactly what you give power to. I decided from very early on that I wasn’t going to listen to other people’s stories and that I was going to create a heart-centred successful business and I wanted to share with you some of the things that I believe enabled me to make my dream a reality. Here are my 7 tips to turn your dream into your full-time job.

1. STAY FOCUSED

You cannot win a race without knowing where you’re going. So the very first thing I always tell my clients is to get clear on what it is that they want to achieve – what do you want your work to look like, how many days do you want to work, where is it, etc. By having a clear vision of what you want to create, you can then begin the work to get there. It never matters “how” you’re going to get there as long as you stay focused on the “what”. The “how” is the Universe’s job.

Another important component of staying focused is to get clear on your why. When you understand why you do what you do, then you will always be able to get through the challenging times. No dream comes without its obstacles, and when you’re clear about what you want and why, you are unstoppable.

When I created Nourished Energy I didn’t know how it was going to happen, but I just knew I had to start this work. My why was so strong that I literally felt the Universe pulling me into this direction. Despite my successful corporate career as a Change and Executive Coach, I knew that my purpose was to empower and inspire other women by giving them the tools and support they need to live a life of their dreams. I knew that I had to live my dream so that in doing so I would give permission to others to do the same.

Whenever I feel unsure about what I am doing or whether I should do something, all I need to do is ask my Higher Self if it is aligned with my “what” and my “why” and I know the answer.

2. FIND A COACH AND/OR MENTOR

The one thing I regret is always never getting a coach or mentor soon enough! And it never has to be just one person. In fact, even Oprah has four coaches at the one time! Different people will come into your life when you need them for different reasons. Even to my Reiki and Crystal healing students, I encourage them to follow what feels right – if you feel you need more support from someone else at any time, then it’s a good indication to follow that feeling.

If you’re worried about the money or unable to invest in a paid mentor right now, a good tip that was given to me was to ask someone you look up to if you can work with them and learn from them. And, if the type of person you want to mentor or coach you is unattainable, then use what resources you can to help motivate you – listen to their Podcasts, watch their YouTube videos or follow them on social media.

You are the product of the top 5 people you spend time with in your life. So, if these people aren’t helping you to get or stay on track then you need to find people who will.

3. START TREATING YOUR SIDE HUSTLE LIKE IT’S MORE THAN A SIDE HUSTLE

There is a lot of belief that if you are starting a heart-centred business then you shouldn’t need to work hard because the Universe will support you. That is really beautiful and true to a point… The Universe is only ever a co-creator in the equation. And the Universe also rewards effort – if you really want to make your side business, more than just a side business, then you need to start believing that it will be your full time job.

If you’re currently in a job that you wish you weren’t doing, it’s important not to spend your time there loathing it and counting down the days. Use it for whatever you possibly can – to learn new skills, try out your new products/services on your team if you can, and build relationships with potential clients in the future. If you leave your current job to become a life coach but leave on bad terms because your attitude sucked, then that’s exactly how you will be remembered. You never know who could end up being a client in future!

Don’t forget who is paying your bills too – it’s important to realise that your current job is investing into your side hustle. Most of my high-paying corporate salary went to courses and starting up Nourished Energy. Without that job, I couldn’t have afforded to start my business.

4. KNOW YOUR STRENGTHS (AND ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENTS)

When you start your own business, you are no longer just performing the one role – you suddenly become the CEO, the CFO, the COO, IT, copywriter, marketing guru, sales manager, accountant, etc. It’s unlikely that your strengths spread across all of these roles. When you’re starting out, it’s okay to just do what you can to try and manage everything, but as you grow (and you will grow), you need to understand what it is that you are good at and what you actually love doing. If you would like to know more about yourself and your passions and what you value, there is a great free quiz you can take on Dr. John Demartini’s website.

Once you know what you should spend the most time doing for your business, then it’s time to outsource doing the other stuff. Not sure you can afford it? Sometimes the question to ask is – can I afford not to do it? Having two children and trying to run a business by myself is far too hard and there is no way I could show up for my clients and students doing the things I am best at if I had to spend more time doing the things I know I am not as passionate about.

5. MASTER YOUR BLOCKS

To be successful, you need to constantly keep learning and levelling up. You need to be committed to working towards being the very best version of yourself always. And one of the best things you can do here is identify and become aware of your blocks. What triggers you?

For many people who are drawn to heart-centred work the words “selling” and “money” are highly triggering. So let’s take a look at how we could possibly master blocks around these two aspects of business. Firstly, you need to understand that both these words are just words – so if you don’t like these words, then change them! Selling could be turned into offering or letting people know. Money can easily be referred to as energy – it is after all, just an exchange in energy.

I always told myself the story that selling was a weak point. I now realise that it’s not a weakness, but the way I perceived selling was my weakness. I now know that because I truly believe in every single service or product that I offer to my clients that I am not selling at all. I am offering a way to inspire and empower (my “why”). If something ever feel inauthentic then I know it’s not worth doing because it wont sell!

Money can often be a reflection of self-worth. Recently, a client came to me wanting to understand why she can’t make money doing what she loves. Simply put, she grew up believing that money was an indication of value. Because she had little value for herself, she didn’t believe she was worthy of living abundantly. By removing our blocks and continuously working on knocking them down, we get closer to living our dream and being able to help others do that too.

6. GET CLIENTS

It’s really nice to have a pretty website and furniture for your new studio but if no body is going to see them then what’s the point! The first priority you should have is to get clients. They want you and your service/product and whether you have spent $5 or $500 on a logo will not change that. So at the very beginning, if you’re unsure about how to spend your time, ask yourself “will this get me clients right now?” This is not because you need to focus on money, this is because you need to serve people first – people need you now exactly as you are. Just do whatever you can right now but do not wait for anything to be perfect because it will never happen.

You also don’t need more courses or qualifications. Start now, exactly as you are because it’s perfect. It’s perfect for the people who will be attracted to working with you. As you can imagine, my client sessions and courses are different to the way they were when I started out. Over time, with experience, knowledge and awareness, you level up and so do the clients. Just trust that whoever needs you right now will arrive at where you are. That’s not to say you won’t be challenged, you will be, but that’s just part of becoming a better practitioner, coach, teacher, etc.

7. LET GO AND BE GRATEFUL

When you feel it deep in your heart that there is no way you could possibly live your life doing anything other than this, that is when you know you’re in your element, your vortex.  So, above all else remember to trust that you soul is guiding you along this journey. Let go and be grateful that in this lifetime you got to figure it out – your purpose. And be grateful for the opportunity to make it happen. In return, all you need to do is make it happen!
