We all know that the Moon can be used to cleanse and charge crystals. But the Moon is a powerful tool for crystal healing as well. The Moon passes through eight phases during its monthly cycle, very much as we do! By understanding the Moon’s personality during these phases, crystals can guide us through our personal growth and healing.
The Moon is either in a state of waxing or waning – growth or decrease. The growth phase starts at the New Moon and ends three days after the Full Moon. Then begins the waning phase until the New Moon again. Just like the Moon, we also go through periods of growth and retreating in a month. Before modern technology, even women’s cycles were said to correlate to this waxing and waning rhythm. Women would menstruate during New Moon (waxing) and would ovulate during Full Moon (waning).
While the Moon is either waxing or waning it’s passing a set of eight phases, and each one is also related to the phases we go through during our own cycles. By understanding the personal effects on us, we can use the phases to amplify our crystal healing.
1. New Moon
The energy around this time is for renewal and new beginnings. The New Moon is a time for crystal healing focused on new efforts and new objectives. This is also a time to start a healing or self-care regimen which will also help support bringing in this fresh energy into your life. It is the time for setting new intentions and planting seeds that will help you.
Ritual for New Moon: Using a Labradorite for intuitive expansion, this is the time to get clear on what you’re wanting to attract in life. This is the perfect time for reflection, meditating to get clear on what it is that you want by writing it down on real paper, with a real pen. Be specific in the goal you want to achieve. You may want to sip on ginger tea, which is perfect for ‘awakening’.
2. Waxing Crescent Moon
The moon’s energy is in a growth phase. This is an exciting time for possibility and bringing positive change into your life – growth, luck and love. This is the greatest time for growth, the effects of healing begin to shine, and progress can be felt.
Ritual for Waxing Crescent Moon: Carry a Citrine crystal with you for keeping you focused and give you the confidence to achieve your goals. Read through your goals each day and have them somewhere you can see them. This might look like a vision board or just a picture you have beside your bed. Burning Rosemary during this phase helps us to trust the process.
3. First Quarter Moon
This is a high-energy time for crystals. Healing energies are high with determination and strength. This is a supportive and encouraging phase. A time of progress and rapid healing. Emotional issues are easiest to deal with during this time.
Ritual for First Quarter Moon: Use an orange Carnelian to create an elixir and sip on it throughout the day. An elixir can be created by putting a Carnelian next to a glass of filtered water, leave it by the window to soak up the Moon’s energy overnight. As you place it on the windowsill, tell the crystal what you’d like it to do – motivate you and encourage action towards your goals.
4. Waxing Gibbous Moon
The Waxing Gibbous Moon is the time of greatest growth and expectation. Treating spiritual and emotional issues becomes easier as there is strong and vivid energy from crystals during this time. Healing feels rapid and progress can be felt.
Ritual for Waxing Gibbous Moon: This is the time to work on yourself and take advantage of the high healing energy. Use this time to push yourself to do something more. Everything should begin to feel like it is taking shape. This is also a time to refine and make improvements. Carry Pyrite during this time to keep you motivated and to take the last bit of action before the waning phase begins.
5. Full Moon
This is the most powerful time for the Moon’s influence. At times, the effects are somewhat overpowering, so don’t be afraid to reach out for support or to celebrate with others during this time. The Full Moon’s magic can be maximised in groups.
Ritual for Full Moon: This is the perfect time for collecting your crystals and taking them out under the moonlight to cleanse. If you need support during this time, Moonstone is perfect. Wisdom is greatest during this time, so get together with someone or a group of people to take time to honour yourself and others. It is an invigorating time, so make the most of it, doing something that you love and that will heighten your spiritual side.
6. Waning Gibbous Moon
Now is the opportunity for change. But the energy during this time is about decreasing and letting go. Energy is growing during this phase if you need to let go of a habit that no longer serves you. It is also a time to begin working on healing. Chakra balancing is perfect during this time.
Ritual for Waning Gibbous Moon:Cleanse your home using Palo Santo or Sage. This will make room for positivity in your life and let go of the negativity. Think about what it is that you need to let go of in your life – bad habits, thoughts, events, people etc that no longer serve you. Have a Smoky Quartz next to you while you’re writing these down on paper to help with releasing bad habits. Create an action plan to work through these things.
7. Last Quarter Moon
The Last Quarter Moon is a time for balance, introspection, calmness. Reflect and ask yourself what you have learned? This continues to be the time for releasing negativity. It is also a time of healing the lower Chakras – those that connect us to the physical world and that hold us back from being the best version of ourselves.
Ritual for Last Quarter Moon: Spend time in Nature and work on grounding yourself. This is the time of taking action on releasing all of those negative behaviours. Carry with you an Obsidian for protection from negativity. Burn or have some Geranium oil that you can smell to help you recuperate your energy after releasing.
8. Waning Crescent Moon
This is the time of rest and recuperation after you’ve been through the hard work of active healing. This is the end of the healing cycle. Think of anything that you need to do to complete the cycle before the next one begins.
Ritual for Waning Crescent Moon: This is the time to be gentle, and a time for self-care. Do things that will relax and rejuvenate you. Take a bath with Turquoise nearby to protect you but also to uplift you or bring it with you to a massage.
